Rather than implement small cells in areas with existing backhaul networks, operators instead have to configure backhaul networks based on the accessibility of small cells in a given area.

The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), an industry alliance committed to accelerating the integration of Carrier Ethernet networks worldwide, recently pointed out the impact of its standards and work on emerging markets. The organization notes that communications service providers (CSPs) are interested in MEF certification and membership as a way to differentiate themselves from the competition. Carrier Ethernet standards and improvements are not only supporting these first-class communication implementations in emerging markets, but are also opening new business opportunities in established markets.
