Today, there are four billion active mobile subscribers in the world. Of those, 1.1 billion subscribers access the Web, and 450 million access data-heavy apps via their mobile phones. In total, mobile operators must manage the delivery of 600 petabytes of data every month! These numbers represent a huge increase in the amount of data traversing mobile networks, which has caught many operators by surprise.
Migrating to mobile backhaul offers the opportunity to lower costs and improve performance, and many mobile operators are implementing it to combat the capacity crunch. As data traffic continues to increase, mobile operators will also be looking for ways to ensure that they are ahead of that growth with considerable insight into the performance evolution of mobile backhaul and other next-generation network (NGN) domains such as CORE.
In a recent video, I explore topics surrounding mobile backhaul, the potential impacts of capacity shortages on mobile operators' bottom lines and the solutions they are deploying to get ahead of the curve.
