Network Performance Management Survey Highlights Keys to Winning and Retaining Enterprise Business, Including Metro Ethernet Forum Standardization

PARIS, France and HERNDON, Virginia—October 8, 2013—Research from Infovista, the global leader of IP and RF planning, service assurance and optimization software solutions, carried out in conjunction with industry analyst firm Frost & Sullivan, found that business customers are driving a change in communications service providers’ (CSPs) Carrier Ethernet network performance management practices. Eighty-eight percent of operators surveyed cited having a Carrier Ethernet network performance management solution in place. However, more than 70 percent feel that their business customers would value increasingly sophisticated reporting.

Carrier Ethernet and business services require proactive monitoring to ensure network and application performance, quality of service (QoS) and end user quality of experience (QoE). The majority of CSP respondents agreed that more sophisticated customer reporting on service performance—including giving enterprises the ability to understand and identify their business-impacting events—would highly impact their ability to win new business. Of the 70 percent previously mentioned, nearly half believe they could increase prices as a result of delivering more sophisticated reporting, opening up a significant monetization opportunity.

“Offering high-performance Carrier Ethernet services that not only include the necessary proof-point of their value but also provide customer-empowering intelligence of their network’s performance reduces churn and supports customer acquisition, as well as drives new incremental revenue streams for CSPs,” said Christopher Cullan, product marketing manager, business services solutions, Infovista.

According to the research, CSPs’ preferences are shifting toward commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions to fulfil their Carrier Ethernet network performance management needs. Operators also cited growing awareness of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), and agreed the most on the importance of MEF-defined performance attributes in their customer reporting capabilities. CSPs said they would value a standard data source, to ensure that Carrier Ethernet network performance management is implemented and working properly.

“As an active participant in the MEF since 2006, Infovista is committed to empowering our customers with the industry body’s best practices and accelerating the adoption of Carrier Ethernet network performance management standards,” continued Cullan. “We are today helping more than 40 CSPs to easily manage end-to-end network, application and service quality and reduce the time spent troubleshooting problems. All in all, this translates into operators providing greater value to their business customers and deriving additional sources of revenue.”
