Introducing Planet 7.9
The challenge of planning a mobile network has never been easy, but it’s certainly fair to say that 5G has made it a whole lot more complicated for RF engineers. New 5G technologies, spectrum and services are making the design of the network ever more complex.
That’s why it is so crucial that your network planning decisions are data-driven.
This is the theme of this edition of the newsletter, where we focus on Planet 7.9 – the latest version of our AI-powered RF planning and optimization software. We’ll look at how Planet 7.9 brings enhanced data-driven planning with integrated crowdsourced data, improved modeling accuracy and new features that make planning your 5G network easier and quicker.
Below you will find a brief description of some of the highlights of the release with links to more information. We also share some of the latest technology insights from the team, as well as revisit one piece of analyst research that really inspired us – how accurate mobile network planning can reduce a nationwide operator’s CAPEX by $2 billion over 10 years!
As always, if you would like to deep-dive into the new capabilities with one of our experts or would like a demo please contact us.

Latest news
With the release of Planet 7.9 we have expanded Planet’s data-driven analysis capabilities to improve 5G network planning. Below is a summary of some of the highlights:
Crowdsourced data analysis
RF planners can now generate crowdsourced data KPI layers in Planet’s Network Analysis module. Taking 5G as an example, users can view heatmaps for KPIs such as downlink or uplink average data rate, SS-RSRP and SS-RSRQ.
Vegetation and bridge modeling improvements
AIM is Planet’s AI-powered 3D propagation model. AIM 3.0 is being released alongside Planet 7.9. It contains several powerful new capabilities including vegetation canopy modeling and suspended structure modeling.
New PDF/CDF statistics viewer
Planet’s PDF/CDF statistics viewer now includes the ability to select multiple layers to be included in the analysis via a new dropdown, visualize area and traffic at the same time, visualize PDF and CDF in the same graph window and more.
Improved network analysis
The analysis improvements made in Planet 7.9 include Google Earth export improvements, network analysis template color profiles 2D statistics from 3D analysis, ESRI format exports and more.
RAN technology enhancements
SS-CINR layer handover gain modeling, master eNodeB mapping and enhanced carrier support for overlapping carriers with different bandwidths are some of the new technology enhancements included in the release.
To learn more about these new and improved capabilities, please read our Planet 7.9 blog post or contact us for a demo.

Something a bit different!
While this is a newsletter focused on Planet and RF planning, at Infovista we understand that all stages of the network lifecycle – planning, deploying, operating and monetizing – are critical for the success of a network.
With that in mind, in each newsletter we will also look beyond planning and into the wider 5G network lifecycle. This month we hope you enjoy reading a blog on how and why to centralize the management of your 5G network testing.
Have you missed our previous newsletter?
In this newsletter we look at the evolution of 5G planning, discuss mmWave planning and talk about our latest release of Planet, version 7.8.
