Introducing new versions of Planet and Planet Cloud

Planning a high-performance wireless network has always been a complex undertaking, and the recent proliferation of 5G services such as RedCap and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) means there is now even more to consider.

It is crucial that your RF planning solution can accurately model a combination of all these services in conjunction with traditional mobile traffic.

In this edition of the Planet Newsletter, we’ll take an in-depth look at Planet 25,  the latest version of our AI-powered RF planning and optimization software. The improvements added include Google Cloud Propagation API support, Fixed Wireless Access planning enhancements, RAN technology modeling enhancements and RAN optimization enhancements.

We’ll also cover our new version of Planet Cloud, the perfect solution for planning small public and private, 4G and 5G networks, our latest press releases and some new resources we hope you’ll find valuable.

As always, if you would like to deep-dive into the capabilities of Planet or Planet Cloud with one of our experts or would like a demo, please contact us.

New release of Planet delivers improvements in propagation, modeling and analysis

Planet 25 is here. The first thing you will notice is that we have changed our numbering convention. The previous Planet release was 7.10, but, going forward, the first two numbers of a release will be the year in which it was released. Here are a few of the highlights:

Planet now supports the Google Cloud Propagation API

Google Cloud Propagation API support

Planet now supports the Google Cloud Propagation API, providing highly convenient new capabilities:

  • Pre-calibrated models mean that time-consuming and costly calibration exercises are no longer required.
  • Google’s high-quality, regularly refreshed geodata is automatically included, eliminating the need to acquire costly 3rd party geodata.
  • All processing is done in Google Cloud, making it extremely fast without purchasing additional expensive hardware.
Planet’s FWA planning capabilities have been further enhanced in this release with new façade and LoS prediction options

Fixed Wireless Access planning enhancements

Planet’s FWA planning capabilities have been further enhanced in this release.

  • Façade predictions - Planet can now display the coverage on building facades at a specific height to facilitate the installation of wall-mounted CPE antennas.
  • LoS predictions - Planet is now able to do coverage predictions based on optical line-of-sight or a specific percentage of Fresnel zone clearance.
Planet RAN technology modeling enhancements

RAN technology modelling enhancements

To maintain our market-leading RF modelling capabilities, we are constantly adding new functionality to Planet.

  • VoNR - VoNR services can now be modelled in Monte Carlo simulations alongside other circuit and packet-switched services to ensure more accurate modelling of the traffic in your network.
  • FR1 band expansion - It is now possible to expand the upper threshold of the 5G FR1 band from 6GHz to 15GHz for customers who wish to model frequency bands in the 7-15 GHz range.

Optimization enhancements

Planet’s extensive network optimization capabilities have been expanded further in Planet 25:

  • 5G call trace geolocation - It is now possible to accurately geolocate 5G calls on a map, simplifying root cause analysis and optimization activities.
  • ACP for smart antennas - Coverage and interference patterns for smart antennas are now computed and cached for efficient re-use and a faster time to solution for the ACP.
